Where will I be working?

Our engineering roles cover teams working in Connections, Design, Construction, Major projects, Maintenance and Repair teams. Together, they make sure our £1.4 billion investment in our network is delivered safely, efficiently and on budget.

During your training programme, you’ll be placed in a specific area of our business, learning on the job and developing a wide range of experience within that particular team. After successfully completing your development programme, you’ll be appointed to the role of Design Engineer, Operational Field Engineer or Project Engineer. This will see you working in one of our Regional Area Operations, Regional Major Projects/Maintenance or Connections teams. Wherever you work, you’ll see that every area of our business has a strong commercial focus and delivers a high level of customer satisfaction.

Regional Area Operations

These teams design, manage, repair and deliver projects on the Low Voltage (LV) network and go up to 6.6/11kV overhead and underground networks across the North West Region. Here, you’ll get to choose from a Design, Operational or Project Engineering role. What’s more, we have two different regions in the North, covering Cumbria and Lancashire, and the South, covering Greater Manchester and surrounding areas to the Derbyshire borders.

Regional Major Projects and Maintenance

These teams design, commission, repair, manage and deliver projects. All on the High Voltage (HV) network up to 132kV substations, overhead and underground networks across the North West Region. Here, you could take up a role in Design, Operational or Project Engineering.

Connections

In this team, you’ll develop your skills in either a design or construction role. So you’ll interact with a wide variety of customers on schemes as diverse as generation, low and high voltage projects, large commercial or housing projects.

Our main offices are spread right across the North West, in Carlisle, Workington, Kendal, Preston, Blackburn, Greater Manchester and Macclesfield. Please select your preferred location and choice of role on your application form, so we can best accommodate you, should you join us.
