As a Trainee Engineer with either programme at Electricity North West, you’ll have all the opportunities you need to take your career forward. We don’t just give people the tools they need to do their job. We’re also committed to helping individuals develop and grow with us.

How you’ll develop

You’ll start off with formal training to enhance your technical skills. You’ll also receive training on safety, the technical side of your role, project management, customer service, business awareness and personal development. You’ll receive hands-on experience, too, putting the things you’ve learned into practice. Supervised by qualified Engineers, you’ll get to experience what it’s like working in different areas of the business. You’ll also have your own mentor to guide you through your development.

If you join the programme designed for A Level/ONC entry level trainees, we’ll support you as you study for an HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering with the full costs of your course as well as paid time off to attend College. And if you do exceptionally well, we may even sponsor you through to completion of a full degree.

Who we’re looking for

To succeed, whichever one of our Trainee programmes you enter, you’ll be highly motivated, talented and hard working.

If you join our HNC/HND entry level programme, you’ll ideally have proven electrical industry experience and an HNC, HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.

If you join our A Level/ONC entry level programme, you’ll need a minimum of 2 A levels at grades A-C, (one of which must be Maths or Physics), or an equivalent qualification such as an ONC in Electrical Engineering.

For both programmes you’ll have a strong customer focus, with good analytical skills, knowledge of IT, and be a real team player. You’ll have strong communication skills, plus a genuine pride in the quality of your work.
