Trainee Engineer FAQs

Still got a question we haven’t covered on our website? Here are the Frequently Asked Questions trainees often ask us.

1. What is the age limit to apply for the Trainee Engineer Programmes?

We invite applications from all candidates whose application meets the minimum criteria for each programme.

2. Are there closing dates for programme applications?

Yes. The closing date for entry to the A Level/ONC entry level programme is 13th April 2012.

Unfortunately, applications for entry to the HNC/HND entry level programme are now closed.

3. How long does each Trainee Programme last?

The HNC/HND entry level programme lasts 12 months. It involves a mix of formal classroom training and a variety of placements across different areas of the business.

The A Level/ONC entry level programme lasts for up to 3 years and includes a combination of formal classroom training, coaching, and hands-on work placement experience.

4. What about sponsorship support for achieving further qualifications?

If you’re an A Level/ONC entry level trainee, you’ll also receive support with study for an HNC in Electrical Engineering, including the full cost of your course and paid time off to attend College. If you’re exceptional, you may receive sponsorship to complete a full degree.

5. What are the general working hours?

Our typical working week spans 37 hours. But your actual working hours will depend on the role you take on at the end of your training programme.

6. What happens at the end of your training programme?

Your final placement will provide you with more in-depth work experience in your chosen role. When you successfully complete your specific training programme, HNC/HND entry level or A Level/ONC entry level, you’ll then be appointed to an Engineer role.

7. Who can I contact if I have any additional requirements?

To find out more about Electricity North West and both our Trainee Engineer Programmes, simply email our Talent & Resourcing team at: careers@enwl.co.uk.

8. If I’m successful, when can I expect to start work?

Our A Level/ONC entry level programmes will start in September/October 2012.
